This suite endeavors to capture the experience of a university music major. The listener is taken alongside as the music major is transformed from an excited simple freshman to a reflective mature senior. During this journey, the music major encounters an identity crisis in the sophomore year and a very stressful but fun junior year. The final movement is a reflection on the last several years and carries elements of that same bouncy spirit which has been refined throughout the experience. Woven into each movement is the main melody from freshman year that symbolizes the essential fire and love for music that is woven into the very DNA of every music major. The suspension in the penultimate bar of the last movement reminds the listener that goodbyes are bittersweet, but the major chord which follows brings a sense of peace representing the long-lasting memories and friendships made during those few years that will remain throughout the rest of a music major’s life.
